How can I fix this Norton Anti-Virus problem?

I got my new laptop that came with the Norton 360 trial, I believe. One day I turned on my computer and it wouldn't turn on. I tried again a little later and it did turn on, but the Anti-Virus portion of Norton doesn't work, along with my Auto-Protect feature of my internet browser. Now Internet Explorer keeps having to close due to problems and I don't know what's wrong. Someone please help!

How can I fix this Norton Anti-Virus problem?computer protection

Uinstall norton. Use NOD32 or avast antivirus. Also, if I were you, I would prefer firefox to IE6 or 7.

How can I fix this Norton Anti-Virus problem?free antivirus download

shut it down, and if it doesnt help, then its not norton. also update your computer.

new computers are not perfect at first, you have to make it perfect
Your trial may be over. If not i would just reinstall the trial or buy it so you can get tech support from norton!

Simple question about Avast?

Avast is very confusing(consider the fact that i just downloaded it) and I'm not figuring out how to work it right. Could anyone give me a quick lesson on how to scan and keep it on auto-protect? A step-by-step walkthrough, starting right after the download, would be nice! Thanks!

Simple question about Avast?computer security

Best and Safest Way to scan with avast! would be to go to menu -%26gt; Schedule Boot-time Scan. Then Scan All Areas Of comp. You will have to restart. Then the computer will scan ur HD. Avast will remove anything harmful it finds on ur comp. From Adware to Viruses. Auto protect should be on 24/7 and should be already enabled.

Norton Antivirus Mac and Clam........?

I had Norton Antivirus 10.0 for Mac it worked fine until yesterday

when I tried to update it for the latest definitions it went awery and

wouldn't apply the latest updates I even re-installed the antivirus and it still didn't work :(

I uninstalled Norton and switched to clamx my question is how do I get clam to scan the entire computer at once instead of scanning only one specific folder at a time (major pain)

Also is there a way I could an enable auto protect feature like

Norton has?

Try Virus Scan for Mac. As for a Auto-protect feature, ClamZav has one called sentry. Just check the prefrences in ClamZav and there you go. But Virus Scan is indefinitely better.

Can someone help me ? new comp?

anyone know what i should do i have a brand new computer (with vista) and my norton auto protect is not working and they said i would have to pay for it to be fixed can i just get rid of it and keep my spywar or anything else i can do for free i mean it is a new computer i shouldn't have to spend more money allready should i?

first and best thing you can do is dump norton...it is a resource hog.

unfortunatley, you will need to pay for some type of virus detection, i recommend av bitdefender or trend pc cillen

Well personally i would degrade your computer back to winodws XP, Vista is very unreliable.

But about your problem on the norton auto protection, (was it FREE Wear?) If it was it would most likely that the experiry on it has gone, and that you should get the full version if you have got the full version then i would contact Norton, and see what they have to say, if you dont get throught to them i would suggest talking to Microsoft.

AVG anti virus, Free and amazingly effective, Id also reccomend getting ad-aware and C-Cleaner. Dont install programs like Kazaa, Limewire, Imesh, Etc they are a HUGE part of what ruins the performance of new PC's.
I hate Norton. It isn't worth the money. When I bought my pc I totally removed it and bought PCTools anti virus and anti spyware. I also have spybot and adaware for all of the spyware stuff. I never liked McAfee, or Norton.

Also, check out Komando.com. That is a web site that will help you with your pc. It is run by this lady that is a computer whiz. She has a nation wide radio show on the weekends. Her site is free and she has all sorts of free down loads for virus and spyware removal, detection, etc.... I think you will like it.

I have been getting her daily computer tips, news letters, and cool sites for almost 5 years.
Go to start, control panel, add/remove programs, find norton and remove it. Restart your computer and your all set to go.
Norton has a new Internet Security for Vista. If yours is new, see if Norton will let you upgrade it.

My symantec system is stopping me from running spyware programs?

On my vista lap top my pc says that I need to run a virus scan through a website that it gives me and I start to run it but a little indow in the bottom right cornor says that symantec auto-protect has blocked the system. I cannot scan my computer now. Also I can't even find the symantec program on the computer, just a little window where I can choose off normal or enhanced and they dont do anything. please tell me how to fix this.... step by step if you can thanks!

My symantec system is stopping me from running spyware programs?computers

Download the programs linked below. Install them. Update them. Scan your pc with them, and do so weekly.

If you have System Restore turned on, the Restore files may be infected, and trying to reinfect your pc. I turn off that feature, reboot to delete the files, then turn it on after a full system scan with AVG.

Turning off System Restore.

(right-click My Computer, Properties, System Restore tab, check the box to turn off System Restore on all drives.)

Restart your PC, and hold down the F8 key.

When you see the Boot Menu appear (black screen white letters), choose SAFE MODE.

Run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN with AVG.

You can heal or quarentine anything found.

You can also run Spybot and AdAware while in Safe Mode. I suggest you do a full system scan. Get rid of anything they find.

Should I switch from Norton???

I have Norton Anit-Virus 2006. It has been working fine.

I am going to reinstall my windows. So everything will be deleted.

I still have months left with Norton. With my new windows should I install Avast (free edition) with Zone alarm(firewall) or install Norton again???

Whats your opinion??

Norton is ok but two things 1%26gt; it takes a lot of your memory... 2%26gt; i had problem with truning the Auto-Protect on..

What happens to "quarantined" items if/when you uninstall an anti-virus program?

I have an old, remanufactured computer, running a Microsoft Windows 2000 O.S. (5.0, service pack 4, build 2195) with Intel Pentium III. (Copied all this from places I found -- no idea what it all means. Figured y'all would need this to form an answer.) Someone once told me it's a "56-k" (again, no idea). (It's a dial-up system!!!)

I have a Norton Antivirus 2004 program that got a glitch. (Auto Protect off, E-mail scanning error). Went through all the suggested "fixes" to try and get rid of the glitch. I am down to the final suggestion of "un-installing and re-installing" the program.

Decided I would "upgrade" and found that my system would not accept any upgrades beyond the 2006 version. I bought that one and want to install it once I un-install the 2004 one.

But, I am leary of the un-install. What will happen to the quarantined items that are currently there? Will they disappear with the 2004 version, or be put back on my system as the 2004 is un-installed?

Help?

You may want to reinstall the product and then uninstall it. There must be some file in the registy that is causing it to act this way. You can install it again if you want.

Why does Norton excludes scanning system volume information at all?

Is it not a security risk to leave it excluded from auto protect and manual scanning? Can anyone answer, please?

Why does Norton excludes scanning system volume information at all?firewall

To speed things up. I takes a lot of time to scan compressed files and since once you clean the infection it's always recommended to clear system restore points just in case so you would not restore the virus itself.

The folder itself is used to store information for System Restore and no files in executable format are located in it.

Personally I remove any exclusions and scan all files. I also have System Restore disabled

How do I disable Norton Anti-virus software?

I have the latest version of Norton, just installed yesterday. I need to disable it to install some software. When I right click in the system tray there is NOT a disable option. Please help!

Trouble with Norton Anti-virus...says it's not installed, so how do I intall it?

I purchased the Norton/Symantec whole package but it says "This scanner is not active because Norton Anti-Virus in not installed. To install Norton Anti-Virus, use your original Norton Systemworks installer." This pops up for virus definitions check, auto-protect check, and last virus scan check. I purchased this offline so I'm not sure how to install Norton Anti-virus, can anyone tell me how?

Trouble with Norton Anti-virus...says it's not installed, so how do I intall it?free anti virus

Best bet is to return Norton and buy McAfee Internet Security. Norton is so fussy, and it's such a dog and slows everything down badly. I know many folks who have had much misery with Norton and switched to McAfee and never looked back.

Trouble with Norton Anti-virus...says it's not installed, so how do I intall it?internet security software

You can access norton's troubleshooting webpage, by the way you have to be online while installing your product because it has to be registered on symantec computer systems.
Re-install the package and make sure that Norton Anti-virus is selected. When the installation process starts choose custom installation and choose all the programs you want to be installed, make sure that Norton Anti-virus is one of them.

maybe you've got your pop-up blocker on too high. Most pop-up blocking software has different levels of security. Turn it down a notch and it should allow those kind of "pop-ups" to open.

Whenever i right click on a link and click "open link in a new window" it doesn't work. how can i enable it?internet

look for a pop up block sign on top of your explorer window, chances are you blocker is not letting you do it. if that's the case just right click on the message and you should get an option tab.
Probably you have a pop-up blocker enabled. Try to disable all the protection software and see if that works.
Norton may be the problem or you may be using a web browser that blocks popups. Opening in a new window may be interpreted as a popup.

On one PC the fix was reasonably simple; a Norton Utilities update had messed up the IE/WebCT settings. A simple fix was to to turn off Norton's blocking.

Well it's doing it's job. What Symantec product is this? What year is it? i.e. norton internet security 2007.

If you go into the options there will be some place you can turn off alerts (can't help more than that without knowing which program it is).

just, stop the warnings.
Nope... this is coming from the outside (Internet) and there's nothing you can do about that but protect your self which you already are...

What I did was disable the popup message in option...but that's with Kaspersky Anti-Hacker...and not Systmantec...You'll have to look for that setting yourself.

friend, do you have the norton cd?or are you downloaded it from norton site??

anyway you have to keep the serial number before uninstalling it. try to uninstall it through your add or remove program and still you are facing problems you will get a dialog box which will lead you to norton site. download norton removal tool from there and use that to uninstall your version.

then reinstall and update. you are done!!!

but dont forget to keep the serial number with you

re-install it, update it, or, if your trial version has expired, get a full version
You can try deleting it thru your control panel, then re-installing it, also you can run it from your cd. If all else fails, contact Norton, they should make it good.

Can you have more then 1 antivirus program running?

look i have avg free edition and also i have nortan internet security with auto protect and i am just saying that will it harm my computer also i have restricions on my computer and i do not know how to take it out at all,,

will anything happen when you take out the restrictions off your computer

thanks for your help

Can you have more then 1 antivirus program running?hijackthis

What restriction are you referring to?

Having two or more antivirus running may well slow down your system if both do real time scanning. Perhaps you can turn off autoscanning for AVG - use it (and any other antivirus/antispyware software) for on demand scan (meaning as and when you need it)

Can you have more then 1 antivirus program running?malware

it is a conflict and will falsley report viruses
Sure, you can have as many antivirus programs in your pc as you like.

But only 1 good antivirus program will do. Keep in mind that some antivirus programs reports other antivirus programs as virus even if its not. Anyway, it helps to keep it just 1, it saves space %26 easy to manage.

What kind of restrictions?
dont do that have only 1 virus protection , and norton and avg

both suck if you want a good free anti virus with better detection

than norton or avg , try avira www.free-av.com
you cannot have more than one AV, I'm surprised your computer isn't locking up
just keep 1 anti virus, i recommend keeping Norton and deleting AVG,running 2 anti viruses together can make your computer unstable!!!
You can't have multiple anti-viruses on your PC. There's a Norton Antivirus remover somewhere on the internet, if you look for it. I might be able to dig it up if you contact me.
Actually technically you can have to AV programs running, but it will cause some issues. ALL av programs have a feed off a microsoft program that the AV program replaces to intercept files coming into your computer. Multiple av programs will have them fighting for control of the file, and really slow things down significantly.

although some free av programs are ok, I'd use a firewall as well, which is as important.

good luck.
having 2 antivirus programs running is not a good idea, they will try to block each other and slow the PC down. The best way to remove Norton if you want to stay with AVG is to load F-secure internet security trial version. It will completely remove Norton, the uninstall will not. F-secure can then be uninstalled after the trial or anytime you wish. Then reload AVG or Avast to stick with free antivirus.

Can you guys take a look at my HiJackthis log i think im infected with something!!?
