when i try to switch off the computer the standby option is disabled.i am using windows xp pro.and whenever i connect to the internet norton internet security tells me this weird stuff "norton auto protect has blocked downloader as a security threat.your computer is secure now".i use norton internet security 2007.can anyone please help me this?????????

Apparently, your computer has seen a trojan downloader virus and Norton has blocked it.
If you have been on the Internet just prior to shutting your computer down and opened an email from one of those 'your friend has sent you an e-card' or similar, there is a Trojan downloader virus embedded as a virus in those links.
Those are virus that allow other users to look at your computer externally.
Be happy that you have the Norton to stop those viruses.
I would suggest you run a full virus scan on your system. Norton is seeing the virus when you connect to the internet because the virus is in your page cache.
Alternately, you could clean your temporary cache files using internet options under 'tools' in your browser.
Then restart your browser.

no stop it may take a few hours depending on the age of your pc but scan your pc with norton(full system scan) if u got any viruses it will remove them
