Excel auto filter/protection problem?

I need to protect parts of a sheet which has filters in it but in the version of Excel I am using, this disables the filters. I am told that this can be resolved using a Macro but I have never used one before and know absolutly nothing about them. Can anyone tell me how I would do this.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a different, possibly easier way of doing it that doe's not involve macros.

Many thanks!

I think I can see your problem.

What you need to do is create the autofilter (I don't think it'll work with Advanced Filter) as normal.

When you select the cells you want to protect, you should get a window which asks you for the password to unprotect, and some options. The first two (Select Locked Cells and Select Unlocked Cells) are checked. Scroll down, and one says Use AutoFilter. You need to make sure that this is ticked.

I hope this helps.

Alternatively, although I don't see how you could record a macro for this situation, I can tell you how to record basic macros.

Go to Tools

Macro %26gt; Record New Macro

You will then get some options

You can name the macro (one word), you can also give it a keyboard command, for example if you were to press Ctrl+Y, it may activate your macro. You don't really need this. And the comments aren't really neccesary either.
