Avira uses the least and is the top rated Free version.

Nod32 is rated in the same class as the top rated kaspersky and uses few resources.

having used both I still recommend kaspersky, (you can find it cheaper on amazon)

i am very happy with avg, it does update alot, but that only means you are being protected alot... its also a very small program file that work very well
The Trend Micro System Suite 8 Professional is a great one, it has everything you need and doesn't tie up a lot of resources. You can get it through www.trendmicro.com or go to www.worldstart.com and go to their software store and get it at a good price.
I prefer trend micro
