I believe New Hampshire has a "financial responsibility" law that is a bit different from insurance.
I think tennesse doesn't
I don't know of any that don't require proof of financial responsiblity... so unless you have $300k burning a hole in your pocket, they require a valid insurance policy with liability coverage.
The age of a vehicle should make no difference... it's liability insurance that is mandatory and a 10 year old vehicle is as deadly as a 1 year old vehicle.
