How can i remove virus from my comouter having avast ver4.7 anti virus?

please help me to determine if there's virus on my computer and how will i remove it having an avast ver4.7 or you may suggest another way on how to remove it aside from using avast... my computer is too slow already i think it has virus it hangs easily whenever i use it.... please help me.. thanks! ;)

Download the spyware doctor and the avg free antivirus and update both and restart your computer and tap the F-8 key while it restarts then run both tools while in safemode and that should get rid of it;
